Thanks all for the input,
It's funny, I never looked at the owners manual recommendation for oil.
I had used 20-50w on my previous motor to keep oil pressure readings
with in range. After my last rebuild I was able to maintain normal
readings using 10-40w. After the infamous Mr. Lang brought to my
attention the 20-50w over 30 deg recommendation. Who new? I learn
something new every day.
After the great info I received from Vance , Bob & James R , I
remembered reading a great tech article in Corvette mag on this subject.
This article explains all of the properties of conventional & synthetic
oils and the requirements needed to Clean, cool & lubricate.
It's still a tough call, because I like the idea of 10w synthetic for
start-up to help get oil where it needs to be and I'll probably continue
to use it in the colder temps, but it's back to 20-50w for the summer.
P.S. If any one wants a copy of the article feel free to forward me your
snail mail address & I'll send it out.
Thanks as always.
