No, my thoughts are not misfiring, I have some thoughts on
misfiring....

I was at the Portland MG Auto jumble a couple of weeks ago,
talking to Dave Crane, who has a misfire at idle (Ahem. I mean
'tickover') on his 6. I have been racking my brain (What's left of it
that I didn't kill off in college with recreational substances. But I
digress...) as to what one might check....

I came across this idea - use a timing light with an inductive
pickup. Put the timing light pickup on each plug wire in turn. If the
light is erratic on one plug wire, then that is the plug that is
misfiring. Replace and/or regap the plug and try again.
A plug wire might also be bad. Usually this shows up under load,
but I suppose it could show up at tickover, yes?

Dave, are you listening? Have you tried that?

        Vance
