The original TR6 dash was French Walnut which is reddish brown
which fades to a wonderful golden color with time and sunlight. The
original finish was satin (presumably for glare) while the very earliest
TR6s (Or was it the TR250? - don't remember) had a gloss finish. To
check yours, look at the inside of the glove box lid. That will show you
the original color and finish of your dash. The finish applied at the
factory was transparent, and they relied on the natural color of the
wood to make it the original reddish-brown. No stain or pigments were
used.
If you want that beautiful golden color, I recommend sanding off
the finish on your original dash, and re-varnishing, as you are not
going to get the same rich color without a lot of sunlight falling on
your new dash.
As for whether or not Teak will fade to a similar color, I can't
say.
You can add a coat of gloss spar varnish to your new dash if you
wish to change the finish. You will need to buff it out to eliminate any
imperfections or dust after you coat it.

I've got a late 72 TR6 that I've owned for 22+ Years and I recently
decided
to replace the dash. The current one is a nice "orangey-yellow" color

I'm pretty sure its the original. It's just starting to get black in a

spots and some small cracks have showed up.
I ordered a replacement from Rimmer and it arrived today. Of course the
picture in their sales flyer - a teak version -- showed a dash that was
pretty close in color to the current one I have installed. Needless to
say
the one that arrived today looks nice but it's more of a "brownish"
color.
So my questions are:
1. Does teak fade and lighten up over time to get to the orangey-yellow
color?
2. Can I add additional coats of "something" to get it to a high gloss
finish?
3. Was the original TR6 dash made of teak or was it something else?
What I'd like to end up with is a high gloss version of the
orangey-yellow
color I have today and I'm wondering if I could ever get there with the
one
shipped to me by Rimmer?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
