You can use a pickle fork or you can use the "two hammer" method. The
two-hammer method is this. Take two equivalent hammers. I like the 3 lb.
variety. Place one hammer face against the vertical link. Use the other
hammer to hit the link exactly opposite of where the other hammer is
placed.

This method has the effect of "squeezing" the link around the taper of the
upper ball joint.

Note: leave the nut and washer on, but loose. If you take the nut off and
there's any tension on the suspension, you can hurt yourself when the ball
joint finally leaves the taper. It hurts. Maybe a lot. =:-0
