Michael---Gasket sealers need not be used on the head-to-manifold
connections. Where the carbs bolt to the aluminum intake, sometimes
these flanges get distorted. Where possible, I drag "flat" machined
surfaces across a sheet of fine emery cloth, which is placed on a sheet
of window glass (or a mirror, known for flatness). Painting the machined
part with liquid Dykem Blue, or even a marking pen, will confirm if the
surface is flat when scrubbed across the emery.
If it looks good, no sealer is necessary, and just a gasket will do.
