Billy,
I cant help you with the hubcap problem. I can tell you what I did for a CD
unit and speakers in my car. I made my own kidney pads to hold 6X9 speakers.
The pads are held on by velcro so that the pads can be quickly and easily
removed for access to under the dash. I then hooked up a sub woofer to the
wires for the rear speakers. The result is pretty good. I can hear the bass
well and hear the treble from the speakers up front(3-way). I need to redo
things a little bit though. I would like to redo the front kidney pads, using
foam on the pieces of luan and then gluing the vinyl on top of the foam.
Currently I used some stuffing to add some substance to the kidney pads. Check
out the link below. I have recently posted a couple pics of the front kidney
pad and speaker and the CD unit. I think that foam would make for a cleaner
looking final product. I would also like to replace the rear sub woofer with a
couple of smaller units that would fit down on the floor behind each seat.
Currently the one I have sits on the rear shelf, which is exactly where you
don't want it to sit. I would like to have the space on the rear shelf also
and would prefer a cleaner look that the sub woofers sitting on the floor would
provide. I do also plan to place a couple tweeters in the upper corners of the
windshield near the ends of the sun visors. The sound is quite good,
especially at speeds lower than your typical 70+ highway speeds. You can still
hear it quite well at highway speeds but you really need to turn it up. If you
want more information just let me know.

Subject: RO-style hubcaps, TR6 speaker placement
I am finishing an interior restoration on my 1969 TR6 and would like some
ideas on speaker placement. The front speakers can go in the "kidney pads" on
either side of the hump. I previously had large speaker boxes on the rear
seat, if you can call it that. I want to save that room for my 5 year old
after installing rear seat belts. Any ideas about where or how I can mount
rear speakers so they can be heard when the top is stowed down?
Also, I would like to use my Rubery Owen style hubcaps. Do any of the '69 TR6
or '68 TR250 owners have any ideas about how I can keep the hubcaps attached
so they don't fly off every time I hit a sharp bump or pothole? I was
thinking of drilling the tits and threading them so they could be secured with
machine screws. There has to be a better way....
Thanks
