I've been told that one should not allow the rear end to dangle when using
jackstands. The weight of the rear suspension, wheels, diff and full gas
tank can cause the frame to flex irreversibly, particularly in the infamous
cruciform area and cause the rear door gaps to widen. One can compensate by
adding aluminum spacers, but I think this drops the rear frame ends even
further below the rear valence leading to the so-called "hogging" noted in
Roger Williams' book.
I don't know how to position the jacks to avoid this, since I don't think
your are supposed to support the car by placing one under the diff.

Subject: Placing car on Jackstands
What is the best method for placing the car on jack-stands? I'm wanting to
do some suspension work in the future and am curious what the best method
for lifting the car would be.
Thanks,
Adam
