Michael,
I removed the rubber over riders from the (original) front and rear
bumpers of my '74.5 TR6 (CF 29889U) several years ago and rechromed the
bumpers before reinstalling them. Carriage bolts (with the square
shoulders ground off) of the correct length were chromed and used to fill
the 4 over rider mounting holes on the front bumper. Two pieces of 1"
thick rubber belting were cut to size (to fill the gap where the rear over
riders were) to mount the rear bumper to the frame at the rear fascia
panel.
Because the front bumper height increased (due to new U.S. safety
regulations) at this production point, the front signal lights moved from
the front fascia to under the bumper and the front fender mounting holes
were higher. Before buying an earlier style front bumper, you may want to
check and see if it will fit without major modifications. I believe the
earlier style rear bumper will bolt up without any problem.
Cheers, Bob Thomas
