Nick---I'm not familiar with your particular setup, but it sounds like
your rotor (tip) is out of phase when the spark is being sent out. High
energy ignitions will more easily send spark to the closest path, and
sometimes this could be to the wrong cylinder, thru the cap towers. You
will hear arcing under the dist. cap and the engine will misfire, of
course, when this happens. At idle speed, turn your distributor body
one way or the other to see if this helps. This should tell you which
way to adjust the triggering mechanism the opposite direction.
In tough cases, you may want to use an old cap. Drill 1/4 inch holes in
it all around so you can see thru it. The spark jumps will be visable.
