Thanks to those of you who responded with suggestions re: my previous
post concerning rear suspension noise.
Whatever the
problem was, I appear to have fixed it Saturday. I removed the
driver's
side axle, greased the one u-joint which had a grease fitting, put
fresh grease on the axle splines, and put everything back together.
This car has the Victoria British rear shock conversion, which I
installed about 2 years ago. In the process of the work I did on
Saturday I noticed that one of the bolts holding the driver's side
shock bracket to the frame
was not as tight as the others. It was not loose mind you - it's a
big bolt and it has a lockwasher - but it was maybe only 95% tight, so
I
tightened all of them as much as I could. Put it all back together,
and no more noise. I don't know for sure what it was, but hopefully
it will stay away.
