OK, I messed with the thermostat today and it looks to be working ok,
although it did open a tad late when placed in a pot of water on the stove.
Not sure what the cooling system issue is but, before I mess with that
anymore I want to get my temp gauge working correctly. I failed to take
decent notes on wiring under the hood and as a result, I have a bit of a
problem there. This is going to be a bit of a long winded problem
description so, bear with me.

When I pulled the wiring harness out of the engine compartment last fall I,
of course, had to disconnect everything running to the engine. At the time,
going to the temp sending unit I had a black wire and a while/red wire. The
temp gauge had always worked. Coming from the temp gauge itself there is a
light green and a green/blue wire. When I reassembled everything, I (as I
said yesterday) forgot to reconnect the temp sending unit. When I did
reconnect it with the black wire and the white/red wire, nothing changed.
Puzzled, I wondered if I'd misconnected something. Looking around under the
hood I discovered a green/blue wire coming off the harness right by the
alternator. I tested this wire with an ohmmeter and found it to be the same
wire that goes to the temp gauge itself. I purchased this car 10 years ago
partially disassembled so the wiring has always been suspect so thinking it
jihad probably always been wrong, I connected the green/blue wire to the
sending unit. This is also what the wiring diagrams I have show. However,
having done that, the temp gauge always pegs to the far right, regardless of
whether the car is warm or not. That's clearly not right.

So, now I'm left with a dilemma. I'm completely sure that sending unit was
connected with the black and the white/red wire before I took out the wiring
last fall. No question about that at all. I'm positive the green/blue wire
is what goes to the gauge itself. Unfortunately, I have no clue where the
green/blue wire should be connected at the other end. Like I said, it comes
off the harness at the same place as the alternator and ignition wiring.
Its also got a black plastic sleeve over it.

Any help here?

I've been maintaining this car myself for 10 years. I built it up from a
full frame-off restoration and its never given me such fits before. I still
can't get my clutch hydraulics to work either. I rebuilt the clutch master
over the winter, reinstalled it and have now bled the system twice. Still
no clutch. My well-behaved little car seems to have become possessed over
the winter :)

Thanks
