it going, it is only a temporary list.]
Ah yes, springtime here in the northern hemisphere, a time of rebirth,
renewal and hayfever (sniff) for some of us. And if you've been on any
of the Team.Net lists for a year or more, you know what's coming. Time
to pass the hat.
Basically I provide these lists in my spare time from my cluttered little
office in the basement. And the DSL line and ISP fees and electric bill and
such take money out of my pocket, so once or twice a year I ask for folks to
give a little to help cover these expenses. So far, it has worked out pretty
well, the server hardware is new enough to keep up with the load, and for the
most part things run pretty smoothly.
There is a fair bit of software I want to update, the archives at
http://www.team.net/archive need work, this summer I may replace the
underlying search mechanism, the current one has some problems. I've not
had the time, amazingly enough, to work on the further development of
http://www.team.net/the-local like I wished. There is some progress, though
quite slow. One feature I would really like is to be able to search ALL the
lists' archives. Some topics like air compressors, tow vehicles, rust
and cleaning parts crop up on many lists, so there could be good information
you might miss by having the search limited to a single list. I'll work on
it as I can, try to get some improvement in that area.
Bottom line, contribute if you can. If you're a US of A citizen looking at
sending off a big check to the IRS next week, don't worry. If you
just spent the last of your cash on race car parts, or shoes for the
kids or whatever, don't panic. Or if you just have no clue how this
all works and who I am and what I have to do with anything, relax,
don't worry. And if you are one of the folks who just recently sent a
few bucks in for the mjb welder fund, sit back and relax, you've already
done your share. Thanks!
There's currently about 15,000 addresses on the lists mentioned below,
representing just over 10,400 individual subscribers. There's also a
batch of subscribers who are on the mailing lists I run managed by the
Mailman list software, http://www.team.net/mailman/listinfo as well
as stuff I do for some other domains.
If I could charge $4.95 a year and maintain that many subscriptions, I
could drop all the rest of my pressing affairs and devote all my attention
to Team.Net. But that ain't gonna happen, drat. But folks will contribute,
maybe as many as 1%, some come through every year, some will be new names,
and the lists will go on. If you've got some bucks to put towards the
cause, here's what to do.
Paypal - Send your $4.95, $11.47, $20 or whatever to donations@autox.team.net
Gee, maybe someone in England will contribute and bump up my Pound Sterling
balance. Does Paypal do Euros?
Visa/Mastercard - You can fax the card number, expiration date, amount to
donate to 801-355-5438 and eventually I may get around to charging your card
via the Fat Chance Garage merchant account, hopefully *before* I run the
page through the shredder ;-) You can also mail it to the postal address
below. Folks have emailed card info to me in the past, but that is pretty
risky.
Checks, money orders (payable to Fat Chance Garage), trinkets and such can
go through the post to:
Fat Chance Garage
PO Box 58333
Salt Lake City, UT 84158
I try to acknowledge all contributions, but I am not very good at it. I still
have checks from who knows how long ago laying around in various places in my
office, some which I may have opened, some maybe not. I am not a very tidy,
efficient person. Often I wonder just how I manage to provide any Team.Net
services at all!
Thanks in advance to those who do contribute, and thanks to all for making
Team.Net what it is.
mjb.
