Hi Ken,

I would think that if the rotor had come apart as you described the cap 
had to suffer. You should replace the cap & time the car properly. I 
have had rotors explode because I didn't seat them properly but I have 
never seen a rotor separate as you described. Make sure your ignition 
cables are seated well. Check the distributor shaft for excess wobble.
