this one off the ground, so I'll certainly pass along what he taught
me.)

Thank you indeed for those most generous words, Blake and good luck to all
those who take part in your event.
Even further afield (in the UK) on 8th & 9th May, we will be doing the same
kind of event for children with kidney failure, so that they too can go to a
Summer Camp for one week. When we last supported this charity in 2002,
fourteen cars raised US$10,200.
Anyone in the UK wanting to take part, please contact me off-list. That goes
for any lister elsewhere who is likely to be in the UK during the event date
without a car and would like to take part as a passenger. You'll see some
truly outstanding country and will enjoy an epic repast called "Piscis et
Ramentae" - the nearest I can get to Fish and Chips in Latin. As potatoes
had yet to be discovered, there's no official Latin word for a chip or
French fry. Even so, our "Piscis et Ramentae" will be eaten from the
newspaper with the fingers in the lee of Hadrian's Wall - an impressive
battlement that crosses the north of England from east to west and was built
by Roman legions (and a good many slaves) to keep the Scots - then known as
Picts, OUT of England in about AD200. A few have managed to climb over the
wall since then!
Our 635 mile route in 24 hours goes just north of the border into Scotland
and much of it is on very narrow country roads. This year for a change, it
seemed a good idea to make the crews sweat a bit and very little of our
route (no more than 130 miles) will be done in fourth gear, so I hope
synchronizers, selector forks, master and slave cylinders are up to the
challenge!! Our theme is Ruined Abbeys and Priories and we'll be briefly
visiting just some of the many sites that were affected by Henry VIII's
Dissolution of the Monastries between 1536 and 1540. For the history buffs
among you, and this means Augustinian, Benedictine, Cistercian and
Premontstratensian Canons sites will hear and see our arrivals and
departures!
I'm still taking bookings. This far we have 1x Spitfire, 1x Sprite, 3x Rover
2000's, 2x Triumph 2000's, 2x Triumph 2.5PI's, 1x TR6, 1x 850cc Mini pick
up, 1x Morris Marina and an air-cooled VW Camper van.
Good luck, Blake. Give our love to Uncle Sam and all those nice people in
the Land of the Maple Leaf - and we'll do the same for you to the 'Picts'.
We might even take a little time off to sample their local hooch - but not
with lumps of ice in the bottom of the glass.

Jonmac
