Well, now that flys in the face of everything....
DOT 4 and DOT 5 (silicone) are not compatible... they should never
be mixed...... assuming that's what you meant by "topped off"....
And to add my 2 cents to the debate, I would never use silicone
in a car that gets driven and heat cycled regularly because
of the lack of moisture absorbency (hygroscopic) of the fluid.
I like changing my brake fluid regularly and having most of the
water come out with the brake fluid.
Now for a garage-queen/show car that rarely gets driven, silicone
would be ok....
