Gene,
You're referring to my earlier post where I mentioned that a constant rolling
brake noise is a different animal than a braking squeal. I classify the (back
of pad to caliper) noise, heard only when brake is engaged, as a "squeal";
the constant or intermittent rolling brake noise (pad to rotor) as a "squeak".
While I don't claim to have a cure for brake squeak, I can tell you what has
worked for me. My apologies for what seems obvious.
I know I'm outspoken on this point, but if your TR came with organic pads
(and it did), they will be less likely to squeak than semi-metallic pads. The
key
here is not to compare a cheap, fast wearing organic pad with a semi-met pad.
Get a quality organic pad, be sure your calipers are tight and your pads are
mounted securely. Be sure your rotors are even and glaze-free. Also, there are
still some Chinese rotors out there designed primarily for the cheapo garage
low-ball brake job. Avoid these, of course. Clean out the brake dust,
cross-sand the rotor surface. If they still squeak, consider new calipers.
