Jim -

I just refinished my 74's steel wheels. They had several coats of paint,
some over heavy rust. In my case I'm lucky to have a sandblast/glass bead
cabinet next door and I sandblasted them down to bare metal. I painted them
with a couple coats of etching primer and then 3 coats of Eastwood's Argent
Silver wheel paint. I lightly sanded the center caps and painted them the
same along with adding new decals. I'm very happy with the results. Another
way to go is to find a powder coating place nearby. They will sandblast and
then coat the wheels with a color and usually clear after that. As far as
the trim rings, I took steel wool to mine and they cleaned up pretty nicely,
a new set is around $100. What I DO need to buy is a set of chrome lug nuts
as mine are all in relatively bad shape. For now I wire-brushed them off and
covered the rust with silver paint.
