Hi List:
Well, I have reached the very frustrated stage and I am hoping that your
collective wisdom can provide some insight. Here is the bullet.
It is 10 days until my first LBC car show, the British Invasion in Stowe
Vermont. I would very much like to drive the TR6 there but I want to feel
comfortable enought to take it 5 hours one way.
I have been chasing down a shimmy in the left front wheel. It occurs from a
little over 50mph until about 60mph and seems to be worst when coasting down
from speed as the car hits about 53mph.
Here is the car information. It is a 1971 with wire wheels and new Yokohama
Avid tires. The front suspension has been rebuilt, with new rotors, ball
joints and all new bushings, rebuilt calipers with new pads.
I have had the wheels rebalanced with the exact same problem. I have switched
the wheels on the drivers side from front to back with the exact same problem.
Tonight I switched the rotor with the old one since I didnt have any problem
with a shimmy with the old rotor and, you guessed it, exact same problem. The
bearings are in good shape and have been repacked and are snug. Spinning the
hub reveals no noticeable wobble or uneveness.
Just to make things interesting, this is the side of the car that lost the
front wheel back in late May. All effected parts from that part of the car
dragging on the ground have been repaired or replaced.
Any and all help would be appreciated. Incidentally, lately there are times I
do not receive the list postings so if you respond to the list, please make
sure you respond directly to me also.
Thanks again,
Aaron(Tired and frustrated)
