I had similar problems with hood alignment on my '72 after having to replace
the bonnet, front valance, left inner wing and left outer wing. The alignment
came down to the bonnet. Everything else seemed to lign up okay. All of the
pieces were brand new pressings from the original tooling. My bodyman was able
to slighltly tweek the bonnet to realign it. We compared the new bonnet to old
original bonnets and discovered that the curve of the new bonnet didn't quite
match. My body man attributed this to the tooling loosing some of it shape
from the repeated use.
Theoretically I suppose this would make sense. As the tooling wears evenly
the parts would still match up. But put newer pressed parts on an earlier car
and expect some fitment issues.
