Hi All,
At 9 pm Saturday evening, just as dark had set in, and after a torrential
downpour and thunderstorm only hours earlier, I departed for the first trip
my 1969 TR6 would take after 17 years of sitting (and then an extensive
mechanical rebuild). My mind couldn't stop visualizing every single
mechanical part that comprises its entirety all the while with my ears alert
for any audible clue notifying me of something about to go awry. A faint
resonating click or an echo of a whir would send me into mental overdrive,
frenetically attempting to associate any possible cause and effect before
they materialized. Needless to say the only two gauges of importance to me
were the oil pressure and temperature gauges.
Even though my face donned a smile from mile 1, I began to relax only once
south of Baltimore. Confidence began to climb. Traffic was also rolling
along at just under 80, and often above it. We were holding our own very
nicely in the left lane. Now I neither condone nor frown upon speeding. It
all depends on the situation. But now I have all the more reason to install
overdrive.
At 10:45 pm, 100 miles later, I arrived at my destination. My TR6, purring
just before I shut her down, seemed at least as contented as I was. The
trip was flawless.
Thanks to all of you on the list. You have been wonderfully supportive and
helpful.
Sincerely,
Dave Herbert
