I came back from Summer Party today and I think I still have some mud between
my toes. Overall, it was a great experience. It was great to meet those
familiar names from the 6pack list and those familiar competitors for ebay
items!
TRF was a lot of fun, in spite of substantial rain every day. Hopefully, a
picture taken by the Ohio sixpack group I hung out with will be published
somewhere for all to see. "Lake Charles -- No Swimming" in the middle of the
mud bog. Best overheard comment -- "life vests on back order." TRF were great
hosts and kept to the program as much as the weather would allow. TRF tractors
in the mud pulling trucks and trailors onto solid ground and boy scouts serving
breakfast everyday at 6:00 AM regardless of weather were just two examples of
real committment to make the event as fun as possible.
It was also nice to meet those fellow TR buffs who really like to drive their
cars frequently. At the VTR, I didn't identify too well with the trailer
crowd, but appreciated the work put into their projects. I would just feel the
need to drive the thing for 8-10 years after the restoration and then do it
again to get another 10 years out of it. I've put nearly 4000 miles on mine
since getting it back together in May and love having such a fun and unique car
to tool around in. When asked how his car ran, one trailered response was, "It
runs just fine off and on the trailer." I'm glad to see another TR preserved,
but I think the joy would be mulitplied by the owner zipping it up a winding
road at speeds few modern cars could handle.
Anyway, being my first TRF and VTR event, it was a great experience. I would
recommend the Summer Party to all and would encourage you to camp to get the
full experience and fraternity of the whole group. Thanks to Charles and crew
for putting out the best show possible.
