The machine shop is suggesting that the harmonic balancer (pulley) should be
replaced because the rubber is dry and cracking. He says that it can
separate,
causing extensive damage.

Does this sound right? I've never heard of this happening.

Any ideas on where a two groove pulley can be obtained? Moss doesn't carry
them.
