Doug & Bob---I wouldn't go by the mill slot in the cam face just yet. If
you don't have a degree wheel, dial indicator, and a means to know where
#1 intake lobe is "at", use Bentley's "on the rock method" as it can be
surprisingly accurate. Once you're sure you've got this dialed in, you
can then centerpunch both sprockets so they line up per the
illustration. This can then make timing easier, should you have to
disassemble this part of the engine again.

Here's a tip to get you very close to where you want the cam to be, as
you insert it into its bore:
With #1 piston at TDC and "firing", the lobe for #3 intake valve (the
sixth one when counting from the front) should be pointing "straight
up". You'll notice then that #11 & 12 are equally opposite each other,
so their lifters would be on the rock. Then find which pair of cam
sprocket bolt holes match the tapped holes in the cam, while holding on
to this timing.

Feeler gauges can later be used between these two rockers and valve
stems to assure that the timing is still correct.

It's easier to do this than to write about it!
