Jeff, having recently gone through the buying process (I bought a June
production '76) I would tell you one very important detail. You will most
likely never recover the price you pay to restore a TR6...it's a labor of
love. You should consider paying 13-15k for a well restored example vs.
doing it yourself (based on the fact that you are looking for a restorer and
seemingly not wanting to do the work yourself). I would bet that close to
100% of the restored cars you see offered for 14-16k will truthfully claim
they have well over 20k invested in their cars (and will be able to provide
receipts). If you are looking to restore to perfection in order to avoid
having mechanical problems you should consider looking for a different car.
The great thing about TR6's is that they are relatively simple, have most
parts readily available, and probably most important the support group (this
list in particular) is spectacular...but they do break regardless of how
recently restored the car may be. I would also suggest that you don't limit
your search to your immediate area either. I live in the Northeast and
bought a car out of Atlanta with very good results. Once I put out an APB on
this list for some assistance in checking the car out in the Atlanta area I
had no less than 5 offers within 24 hours. Good luck!!

Hi all....I subbed today to the list. I am going to
look at a TR6 today. It has been in indoor storage
for over 10 years, not ran. It's a 1976, VERY VERY
late Commision number. I have read about the "what to
look for" kind of things. I had a couple of
questions. I was wondering if anyone on the list had
any good experiences with any restoration shops that
would be worthy of doing a resto on this car. And if
the car is in fair to good shape bodywise, what would
the low to high end cost be? Thanks for all the help.

Jeff
