I changed my fuel pump, spark plugs, plug wires, points, and condenser this
morning. Now it wont start. It ran pretty good yesterday. It is not
getting a spark at the plugs or from the coil. I set the points at .015". I
tried putting the old condenser with the new points, then the old points.
Still no spark. I have the Bently manual but they don't sem to have a
trouble shooting section. I have replaced points in American cars many
times, so I know what I am doing. I also replaced the wire that goes from
the points to the outside of the distributer (by way of the plastic grommet).
I reinstalled the points, new and old as well as the condenser severl times
with the same results. I am wondering if maybe I knocked a wire off of
something while I was installing the fuel pump. There is a black wire with a
blue strip that is not connected to anything. It is on the driver side
inner fender near the firewall next to two things that look like relays.
There are about 5 terminals without wires on them. Does anyone know where
the black wire with a blue stripe goes and what does it do? Also any ideas
as to what steps do I take to find out why I am not getting a spark. I am
almost positive that the points and condenser ar installed correctly.
Considering the frequent problems of British cars, I wonder if something else
(perhaps the coil for example) has gone bad too.
Thanks.
