Hi Joe,
I read your situation with much interest. I had a starter with a mind of
it's own. So I had a new one installed and it worked fine for about a
week or two. I really complained about it to my mechanic and he had
another one installed but he didn't like doing it. "Tough!", I said. "I
paid for it!".
Well . . . it happened again and we had a blow-out over the phone. He's
the expert and I was at his mercy. Know this . . . I have very little
experience with cars. I went back out to the car and I try again and I'm
noticing a faint clicking noise on the inside driver's fender next to the
fuse box as I turn the key. After THREE starters, all handled by an
experienced British mechanic, my REAL problem was a bad connection on the
ignition relay box . . . one small wire wasn't making good contact.
Problem solved!!!
By the way, I gave this mechanic another chance to redeem himself when I
had him rebuild my carbs. and he still messed up.
The next time, I'm doing it myself.
