Hi,
This sounds like a Monza header. Another giveaway that it's a Monza header
is that opposite of the built up weld that you describe, the pipe have to
"neck down" a bit and there is no weld fillet where the pipes enter the
flange.
That said - you can make these headers work, you just have to spend time
and effort to do so.
If the primary tubes are about 26 inches in length, you should get max.
torque in the 5000 range which is just about right for a street car or
occasional autocrosser. If the primaries are shorter than that, I believe
they move the torque peak _up_, which is probably unsuitable for a street
car.
Of course without a picture of the header I could be totally wrong.
