Dear List,
Today I replaced the steering coupling on my 69' TR6. I discovered that my
replacement coupling was slightly different from the original (which was
nearly split in two). The difference is that the old coupling had two
regular bolts and two (counter-sunk) hex-head bolts, while the new coupling
had four counter-sunk hex-head bolts. It was a bit of a struggle to get the
new coupling on (I ended up using a clamp to compress the rubber to get the
final bolt to fit through), but it SEEMS to fit OK (it certainly seemed to
be the same size as the old one when I compared them). After looking at the
Moss catalog I realized that they sell two different versions of this
coupling (the vendor I bought it from only sells one). Has anyone had any
problems with using different versions of the steering coupling? I don't
want to discover that I've made a terrible mistake while driving down the
highway and losing my steering!
Thanks for any suggestions from the ever sagacious list,
Grant Kester
