Gene,

I remembered (last night) that I also had to take out the idle mixture
screws and blow some compressed air into the screw hole and clean the
mixture screws. I counted the # of 1/2 turns until the screw was
removed for each carb in turn. When putting the screw back in I backed
out a 1/2 turn from the starting point and ran the engine. Then set the
mixture screws back to the original position for a smooth idle. Also
check to see if you have any vacuum leaks (intake manifold, retard
pipe). One can also increase the idle screw to see if the engine will
idle at a higher rpm, but remember to increase both carbs the same amount.

To check if the engine is running rich or lean do the following after
having the engine at running temperature:

1: take off the air cleaner.

2: lift the piston in one carb while at idle about 1/4" with a
screwdriver. note response

a) Immediate increase in rev/min- rich mixture

b) decrease in rev/min or stall - weak mixture

c) Slight change in rev/min, then return to normal - correct mixture.
The exhaust note should be regular and even.

You can't hurt it by driving it around some more. It can only get
better with more use after sitting for so long.

Feel free to email me at rgp@ghg.net,
