Half shafts will only go back one way since one of the sliding joints is
wider, but on the drive shaft, if memory serves me it can go back just about
any way.

Reading this and having just pulled everything apart in the rear end of
mine (see other tales of woe).
Here's a thought. I haven't looked but can't the sliding joints on the
half-shafts go back together in 10 or 15 different positions, from u-joint
yoke to u-joint yoke? This might also add some real balance , and
therefore vibration issues.

Hi Robert,
I would think you also have to consider tuning the driveshaft from each
end. For example, turn it 180 at the diff, try it on the road then turn
it 180 at the gearbox and try it again? Shouldn't this also be
considered at the diff flange/halfshaft connection point and the half
shaft to hub joint??
