Def. overkill.
It's a "set it and forget" system. However - if it breaks, you are
S.O.L. Note that you can leave a stock distributor in place (you need
something there so that the cam can drive the oil pump), so you could have
the stock dizzy set up as a "hot spare"...
Note - you need to do some dyno time to get the timing curve right.
