I didn't see the original post so I am going to assume the bracket is
cracked. If so the cross member probably cracked but you won't be able
to see it without flexing the stud. I usually use a strong magnifying
glass to look for that crack. Anyway, after finding the cracks I grind
them out in the shape of a V and weld them a little hot so that I get
good penetration. Then I grind the weld flat on the bracket so the
rubber will sit flush. I also always use the gussets to strengthen the
brackets. I usually make the gussets myself.

I'm sending this message out again since I only got one respose and I'd
like to hear from someone who's been-there-done-that before.
I've got to replace the forward differential support on my frame which
is off the car. The old bracket appears to have been welded to the stud,
then the stud was welded to the cross member. Since I don't want to cut
the stud out and it's a tight fit for my mig what should I do or have
done to get a good weld on the bracket to stud joint?
