hI hUGH,
The canister was an easy rebuild. Just as you observed the replacements 
parts are the fiberglass like filter and the charcoal. I used new 
charcoal from my local pet supply used in fish tanks & the filter is 
commonly used in GM, called a pancake filter. Just clean  the metal 
screen & reassemble.
