I think this is an area that's open for dispute. When I restored my 250 I
got a list of items to check for from Tom Waddell (VTR Vehicle
Consultant)... one of the items is the front valance. According to Tom the
front should be black and the side towards the engine body color.... that's
the way I did mine (my body color is red). I have a friend that purchased
his TR250 from the original owner... the car was never hit or
repainted....he swears that the front of the valance was body color (Triumph
Racing Green). I justified black by looking at pictures of white 250's....
if the front of the valance was body color the white would show up behind
the grill...and none of the pictures I found showed the white.
Bruce, I wholeheartedly agree with your statement above, I have seen a few
original TR5's over on this side of the pond and can concur that the ones I
have seen have all been flat black on the front of the front valence with
body paint on the inside.
More than likely someone will tell us different though!!
