I just went through this last week.  It doesnt appear that the old filter and 
canister will come out, but it does.  I ended up removing the filter first, 
then the canister but maybe you might be able to do both.  It ends up being a 
mess, but not hard to do.  To minimize the mess, you might want to allow the 
oil to drain out of the filter and canister for awhile after removing it.  
Sorry, I have no experience with a cooper filter.  TRF shipped mine spin on 
adapter with the filter back ordered so I just went to NAPA and picked one up.  
Of course, the filter came the next day.  The part number at NAPA was #1034 and 
the Fram filter TRF sent was #PH3600.  Graham responded with all the other 
pertinent information.
