Thought I'd throw in my experience here. I went with the shock conversion
that has the heavy plate steel bracket that mounts to the original lever
shock bolt holes on the frame. When I installed the conversion all was well
with the frame, a year and a half later I began to hear a loud bang when I
hit a bump, so I put the car up on a lift and the frame had cracked
completley around where the crossmember that supports the shock brackets
meet the main frame on BOTH SIDES!! I don't how the rear of the car stayed
together. I have comp spings in the car wich lowered it about an inch and an
heavily modified engine with a heavy foot to match and since this
crossmember also supports the rear differecial I don't know if it was the
shock conversion or my driving that caused the crackes but I'm going to keep
an eye on it.
