Hi again,
I have been having a very interesting problem with the car. It may run
smooth then miss, then run smooth again, all this below 2000 RPM. It
also seems a bit temprature related, it most consistantly shows up after
the car has been run, gotten hot, allowed to sit for a bit, and then run
again.
The carbs are Stromberg CD175-2 and I have put 30wt oil in the damping
assy. They have been rebuilt completely (except bushes and seals on the
throttle plate.
The other day, after getting the official mixture tool, I was playing with
the air valve (??) and how it was damped. I found the damping effect was
completely different. Inspection showed that there were two different
styles of damper rods installed.
one was Aluminum colored with 2 grooves around the outside edge and the
other was all Brass and smooth sided. The Al. one was a bit longer.
Which of these is right??
On the other hand I swapped them (front carb to back carb), the damping
effect became balanced, and the car idles much better with fewer misses,
maybe I should leave well enough alone.
Ideas????
thanks
