Wayne---I can tell you what I did the last time my block was hot tanked.
1) I let the shop that did the block remove the freeze plugs. When I got
the block back, all new plugs were installed. I didn't provide them with
the plugs, as they are standard sizes.

2) I left this aluminum plug above the oil filter, in. (Actually, I
never even noticed it) When I got the engine back together, there was
constant seeping of oil at this plug. Apparantly hot tanking is tough on
aluminum, and replacing this plug came when I later removed the engine
for another reason. I then used a center punch and lots of penetrating
oil to ease it out, with the engine on its side. The original plug
replacement came "on a stick" of four, from TRF. Part No. PU1404.
Eventually I used a bolt to seal this area, which is another story.

3) I did remove the "heater water valve adaptor" from the head.

4) I saw no reason to remove the oil pump drive shaft bush, and
encountered no problem here.
