Walt---It's normal for a high energy spark, such as that which leaves the coil, to try finding some place to ground. You took away its ground path by removing the wire out of the top, and the + terminal provided a way to ground. It's better to remove the wire at the cap, and ground it to the valve cover or some other source. Unless your ears lit up, it shouldn't have hurt anything. Dick |
