Well don't pry with the screwdriver...that really sucks! If you can get the
car on a lift so that it is easy to maneuver beneath it you can actually use
the broomstick. You can angle the broomstick back through the opening
between the exhaust manifold and the fender well (just beneath the air filter
housing). It's a little tricky but you can use the end of the broomstick to
force the latch to release, (flatten that end of the stick a bit). A
flashlight certainly helps and possibly looking at the latch of another six
to plan your attack.
If you e mail me I will send you instructions on making and installing an
emergency release that can't be seen but sure comes in handy at a time like
this. It was the first thing I added to mine.
