I found that if you go to a K & N dealer and look up the part number for a
TR6, you will find the number Cris Hemingway posted in an earlier note. That
part number is E-2540. Although close in size to the Fram filter which
properly fits the TR6 canister, the E-2540 is 2-3/16 inches high. The Fram
for a TR6 canister, part number CA656 is 2 inches high. The E-2540 is just
too high and will be compressed when fitted into a TR6 canister. If you have
access to the full K & N catalog, there is a section which lists the filters
by dimension. In that section I found that the closest element to the stock
filter size (based on the Fram filters which seem to fit real well) is the
E-3360. That one is 2 inches high and fits without compressing into the
canister. I wrote TRF about this about 4 years ago. I'm not sure they have
done anything about it (or K& N for that matter, I would have thought if TRF
agreed with me they would have contacted K & N). Anyway, if you get the
E-2540, make sure the elements are not getting too compressed in the housing
as that might affect the air flow the K & N filters are famous/infamous for.
Well at least that's what I've found regarding K & N filters in the stock
canister.
