Detonation

I'm wondering, if you do not have ping on heavy load ie. 4th gear, up a hill
at 35mph under hard excel , that you don't have detonation at high rpm on the
highway or detonation period. I'm running 10:1 comp. hot cam and I've set my
timing up so I don't have ping under heavy load and am
wondering if I'm safe . Can you have detonation at high rpm and not hear any
ping?
