I ordered a new water pump and thermostat for my TR-250 a few days ago.
While waiting for them to arrive, I pulled the old ones and cleaned up the
mating surfaces. The water pump surface seemed pretty clearly to not have
any sort of gunk on it. The thermostat's mating surface seemed to have some
black stuff though. It also didn't seem to be machined as well as that for
the water pump.
My Haynes book doesn't mention any gasket compound. Should I use it on one
or both surfaces?
