Greetings Listers:
I plan to install new steering rack mounts on my '69 TR6 this weekend.
Since the new mounts are split and not solid my research tells me that I
should only have to remove the mounting u-bolts and the lower steering
u-joint in order to move the rack enough to do the job. It won't be
necessary to separate the tie rod ends. Is this correct?
Obviously, I'll need to mark the location of the steering rack before I
loosen it. I also have a new lower steering u-joint to install as the old
one has a small amount of play. (Which brings up another point; the
replacement unit actually has a separate spider connecting the two pieces of
the unit. The old unit is, basically, two lumps of metal that are joined
together forming a u-joint)
Any thoughts and experiences are appreciated.
Best regards,
Walt Fogle
