The main value of coating a stainless steel header is to make it last
longer. Replacing a good SS header will cost a lot more than $150.
Secondarily, a proper coating will reduce the heat transferred to the engine
compartment. And--if appearance matters to you--it will look a lot better
than a discolored SS header.
If horsepower gain were the only consideration, you wouldn't have to paint
the car either.
