Matt:
AS you should no longer be subject to smog laws, (depending on where you
live, of course), it's my opinion and that of many other 6packers that you
are better off to remove ALL smog equip. incl., the air pump, all
associated hoses, the egr valve, and the air injection manifold that leads
into the exhaust manifold. A good method to seal the holes left in the
exhaust manifold is to use 1/2" allen head set screws- for the EGR valve
get a 3/4x16tpi set screw. Normally a special order item, however can
be obtained at your local Fastenal or such industrial fastener store. The
neat thing about Triumphs is that (when tuned properly), they can pass
emissions test without all that smog crap that was federally mandated. True!
AS for other mods, when you start to shave the head, raise compression,
etc, you can run into problems- read as big $ for starters. There is
nothing wrong with getting a streetable cam such as the S2 grind ( which is
probably what the Crane street unit is). This alone will get you a nice
increase in horsepower. Cam bearings are nice, but can cost $250 to $400
depending on where you live because of the align-boring needed to fit
them. Are they necessary? No. Depends on condition of your block. I just
had my block overhauled last year w/ new rings, main and rod bearings, new
stellite valves, valve guides, and hardened valve seats, new tappets and
pushrods, new timing chain and sprockets and oil pump, and new S2 cam. The
cost?- about $2500. Here in central Ohio, which I understand is cheap
compared to some parts of the US.
I did not go for the wild head milling, cam bearings or anything unusual.
Just my opinion. YMMV.
AS for the bumper, I can't help.
Your Triumphantly,
Jeff Johnson
