| Listers,
About 6,000 miles ago I rebuilt my transmission (actually I held the wrenches
while Alan Moskowitz did the intellectual part-thanks Alan). The rebuild
involved replacing the bearings, seals (I didn't touch the OD, it works great)
and new synchros. In an effort to "be all that I could be" (at least
transmission wise) I put Red Line Synthetic MT oil in the tranny (1970 A type
OD). Within the past 1,000 miles I have noticed an increasing difficulty in
shifting through the gate from 1st-2nd to 3rd-4th as well as to reverse from
1-2. Originally the difficulty seemed to increase as the transmission warmed
up however now this shift is difficult all of the time. Thinking it might be
the synthetic trans oil I changed back to the regular 85-90 weight oil which
initially seemed to improve things however I am now back to square one with the
same problem. I have changed the oil twice in an effort to eleminate residual
synthetic oil in the OD unit but the problem persists. I obviously need to
resolve this problem before I wear out/break something in the tranny. Any
suggestions?
