Tim---Some of the questions you asked are answered in the reply to
'young' Matt. I can possibly be more exact if you tell me how your A/F
monitor is reading, as you accelerate thru the rpm band. If you feel the
engine is npt performing the way you expect it should, and the monitor
is showing a sufficiently 'rich' fuel mix, the problem may not be fuel
related. If you still want to go the SU route, get two books...The SU
Carburetor Workshop Manual, by Haynes, and "How to Power Tune the SU".
Yes, the HS6 SU carb has available a large selection of needles that
will fit the .100 jet in the ZS carbs. (Bushings and mods necessary to
make them adjustable.) As does the HD8 with the larger (.125) shank.
These will NOT work with the ZS standard jet. These carbs and needles
can all be ordered from Burlen Fuel Systems, in England. You first need
to determine what area in your present needle profile is not doing the
job, as reported by your monitor. Write me off line if you want more
specifics.
