Skip,
I have a fully functional emission set up on my TR250. The retard unit on
the distributor retards the timing at idle. In my opinion this is not needed
and only screws up the performance especially if you have any engine mods.
This was Triumph`s first attempt at emission control and it is weak at best.
You end up constantly fighting vacuum leaks. 69 TR6`s have the same set up.
The intake manifolds are a problem too. Most of the cars I have seen do not
have this functioning. It will run better without it. The only reason I
have it set up to work is for Concours. Since the head on my 250 is shaved
and compression is higher than stock I have never been able to achieve a good
idle.
