Thanks Bernard,

The reason that I am going with the LuK is twofold.  It seems that a lot
of people have gone with the other combinations and I want to try the LuK
so that I can document the process as well as the performance over a
period of use.  I am also thinking that if anyone still has the recipe
for the original Laycock it will be LuK as they apparently bought
Laycock.

Mine is unpredictable.....sometimes fair, sometimes foul.

Hi Guys,

I had some clutch problems in my saloon a couple of years ago with
difficulty engaging and changing gear. I too went over my complete
hydraulic
system rebuilding the MC and SC and lots of stuff in between. Even after
this, I still wasn't getting enough movement from the slave cylinder to
properly disengage the clutch.

In the finish, I ended up replacing the clutch (it had done 60,000ml so
was
stuffed anyway) with a borg and beck high-rise clutch which solved my
problem. I chose this over the luk clutch purely for economy reasons.

One thing I have been tripped up by before is making sure the hydraulics
are
bled properly. It is quite difficult to get the air out of the slave
cylinder while it is in position.

The thing I really did like about the luk clutch was the light pedal
weight
(the borg and beck clutches are very heavy in comparision). A friends car
had a luk clutch in and th clutch pedal was lighter than the accelerator
pedal!.

In 1978/79, the last of the NZ built saloon cars had a laycock clutch
fitted
to lighten the pedal (as our market was just starting to be invaded by
Jap
cars). The Luk clutch has a very similar feel to the Laycock.
